European oak doors and windows
We were asked to construct and fit a European oak conservatory, using blue tint double glazed units, and on seeing the finished result the client was so taken with the look, that they decided to replace all their windows and doors to match.
The largest frame consisted of French doors and stormproof casements.
The casements were fitted using friction stays and espagniolette bolts and the doors were fitted with 5 lever mortice locks and butt hinges.

Large green oak frames to barn conversion
We were asked to supply and fit new green oak frames to replace rotten ones for an architect in West Wycombe,Bucks.
The main structural frames were made from 6inch x 6inch green oak with mortice and tenon joints, draw bored with oak pegs.
As the frames were too large to transport we had to make them up on site, cutting all the joints by hand.
The doors were made into subframes, but the double glazing was fitted directly into the green oak with loose beads pinned on.
A small crane was used to lift these frames into place,as they each weighed around 1 ton when constructed.
The client wanted a smooth finish on the inside and this was achieved with a sander.
They then finished this with Danish oil and stained the outside black to match in with the building.

Bay windows
These windows were made in pressure treated softwood to replace rotten ones in Hillingdon,Berkshire. They were supplied with a primer coat ready for finish decoration.
We had to recreate the original design, but with double glazing. We did this by fitting double glazed units, with spacers within the double glazing which we then covered with stick on glazing bars.Fairly complicated pratice, but not uncommon.

Green Oak Sunroom
We were asked to build a Sunroom with chunky timbers to replace an old sad looking conservatory. The brickwork was already in place.
The framework and roof structure were made from Green oak, and all joints were pegged using dried oak dowels.A pair of kiln dried oak doors were set in a dried oak door frame.
The glass was fitted using a dry glazing system with kiln dried oak cover strips and were waterproofed using E.P.D.M. glazing tape.
An old fashioned way to build in timber, but still effective and very pleasing on the eye.

Hardwood Orangery
We were asked to make a hardwood orangery using IROKO as this is a very durable hardwearing timber. It was fitted with Pilkington "Activ" double glazed units to give the client the optimum thermal control without using blinds.
The doors are bi-fold as we were asked to provide a large opening but minimise the space taken up when the doors were open.
The whole construction was fitted on a dwarf stone wall to match in with the existing building.
To keep air flowing through, the roof was fitted with electronically controlled roof vents.
